Work-life balance 'most important equality issue'; pay second
An equal rights questionnaire carried out by a leading employment organisation has found that work-life balance guidance is the most requested equality issue in the workplace.
In the TUC 2009 Equality Audit, it was found that 65 per cent of unions under the Trades Union Congress (TUC) umbrella were consulted over the matter, while women's pay and reward alongside employee benefits polled second with 63 per cent.
Over 99 per cent of union membership was represented by the poll, which consulted 43 trade unions in the UK.
General secretary Brendan Barber emphasised that achieving fairness and equality in the workplace is at the forefront of the minds of such organisations.
He continued: "Unions have always led the way in calling for more family-friendly working rights. But unions have an even more important role in delivering a better work-life balance for workers up and down the country."
Members of the TUC are currently engaged at the group's Congress 2009, which is being held at the BT Convention Centre in Liverpool until tomorrow (September 17th).
