Tory public sector pay plans surprise many
Economists and voters alike have questioned the finer details of the plans announced by the Conservative Party regarding public sector pay freezes over the coming months.
Four million public sector workers could turn their backs on the opposition after George Osborne announced that the party will freeze public sector pay for anyone earning above £18,000, which he anticipates will save over £3 billion a year.
It is hoped by the Tories that by taking such drastic measures, the current financial black hole in the UK's finances will be plugged sooner, despite a number of personal sacrifices.
Speaking during the conference at Manchester Central, Mr Osborne told his fellow party members: "Anyone who tells you that these choices can be avoided is not telling you the truth. We are all in this together."
Earlier this month, Tory leader David Cameron was accused of retreating on his idea of holding a referendum over the Lisbon Treaty, with the figurehead appearing to rule out a public vote if the measure is ratified by all 27 member states.
