CIPD: Pay and bonuses not the only risk factor
Despite its strong recommendations, a recent report has over-focused on reward and should not cover up other risks associated with people management, according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
The CIPD has called upon risk committees to review these issues and has also asked non-executive directors to be provided with regular training to ensure the Walker review is taken on board through all levels of a company.
Charles Cotton, policy adviser at the CIPD, said: "Risk committees need to look beyond just pay and bonuses, to review whether company culture, performance management and appraisal, talent management, leadership and organisational development are also sources of potential organisational hazard."
Mr Cotton added that the review also ups the responsibilities of non-executive directors and it is therefore essential to put more effort into learning and development programmes for them so they acquire and maintain skills, while fulfilling expanded roles effectively.
The CIPD has over 135,000 members and prides itself on developing and supporting managers and the development of workers within organisations.
