Businesses 'must engage staff more' for success

Businesses must ensure that they are doing their best to impress their employees in the current economic climate, particularly in light of recent trends, according to an expert.

In October, the Hay Group asserted that worker engagement levels now stand well below regular levels - 59 per cent against 72 per cent.

Julia Robertson, the chief executive of Impellam, highlighted the possible importance of employee reward and communication by emphasising the importance of engaging people at a company, particularly when firms are looking to headhunt the best talent.

She noted that leaders play a major part in this as they are the human face of the company's demands at large.

"Cultures need to be felt by staff and they will only feel it if they see it and touch it every single day through the managing director's behaviour, the behaviour of the senior management team, through a set plan used to make a team matter," Ms Robertson added.
