Unite calls for BA to resume talks

Britain's largest trade union has urged airline British Airways (BA) to resume talks to improve employee benefits and pay, as well as service standards.

Unite has emphasised its willingness to talk to the employer on the condition that the offer it made last week is reinstated.

"If BA thinks that strikes are going to be avoided with a worse offer, the company is conning the travelling public," its spokesperson stated.

The union described the company's actions as trying to bully and bludgeon its way through the confrontation and called for a more serious approach to be reinstated.

Joint general secretary Tony Woodley has also criticised media claims that Unite failed to attend Acas talks last weekend as being a misrepresentation.

He stated that the conciliation service has expressed its "extreme annoyance" at the way that BA has misrepresented its position.

Earlier this week, the Trades Union Congress asserted its impartiality to the situation and affirmed its commitment to finding a solution to the problem.
