TUC: More time needed to bridge the gender pay gap
Equal employee reward for both male and female workers may still be a possibility far out in the future, according to the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
The TUC acknowledged the progress made over the past years but pointed out that closing the gender gap in salaries would occur later rather than sooner.
A TUC spokesperson said: "Only by lifting the veil of secrecy around pay, better valuing work traditionally done by women and increasing the availability of high-quality part-time and flexible working, can we hope to make significant inroads into the gender pay gap."
She pointed out that for the past ten years girls had consistently out-performed boys in academic performance but this advantage had not been picked up by the industries.
These comments follow in the wake of a recent research conducted by Grazia Magazine, which found that less than 50 per cent of the women polled confirmed that they do not earn more or as much as their partners.
