Government moves to get more people in employment
The Tory-Liberal Democrat government is moving to shift people on benefits to employment as part of concerted effort to reduce the number of Brits dependent on state assistance.
This move could lead to the creation of newer jobs and better employee benefits as the government tries to incentivise employment for lower wage earners.
Secretary of state for work and pensions, Iain Duncan Smith, is attempting to merge income support and housing benefits under the tax credit structure.
The required funds to make work pay better and seem more attractive to people will be achieved through minimising frauds and errors in the tax credits system, the minister has proposed.
As part of a speech to be delivered on Friday, MP Smith will be arguing: "After years of piecemeal reform the current welfare system is complex and unfair. For many people, taking a job leaves them no better off than a life on benefits, and this has trapped significant parts of our society in inter-generational worklessness and entrenched poverty."
Recently, the coalition government scrapped the default state pension age, therefore making it illegal for employers to force staff to leave work on reaching the age of 65 years.
