Provide employee benefits for a healthy workforce, expert advises

Bosses should provide employee benefits to help keep their staff healthy, one expert has noted.

Carole Spiers, business stress consultant, pointed out that a workforce is going to be more efficient if they eat healthily.

"Is an organisation responsible for the health and wellbeing of their employees? No, of course not - however, they can help and provide tips and strategies to actually ensure that their employees know what to do," she said.

The expert suggested going out for healthy meals at lunchtime, free massages and putting bowls of fruit around the working environment, which "shows goodwill".

Another idea is to have a healthy food day each month, hosted by a different employee each time.

This follows research by Nuffield Health that revealed 30 per cent of workers are more likely to go into work sick during an economic downturn due to worries over workload, job security and workplace culture.
