Employee reward and benefits news
Staff 'prefer holiday to job security'
The majority of staff would prefer increased employee benefits regarding annual leave rather than heightened job security, according to new research.
A study by recruiter Hyphen found that the promise of more holiday is a better motivational tool for getting staff to be more productive than the knowledge of job security in 2012.
While 33 per cent of respondents to the survey said that job security would make them more productive, holiday proved to be the preferred option for 40 per cent.
Younger people are more likely to value holiday allowance highly, with almost half of 16 to 24-year-olds saying they would work harder if this was the reward.
However, money is the biggest motivator, according to the study, which revealed that reversing pay freezes and offering raises would encourage three-quarters of employees to work harder.
Zain Wadee of Hyphen said: "Listening to the fears and changing demands of employees can help organisations understand the key drivers for employee engagement and strategically shape benefits packages that meet employee requirements."
