Critics slam Boris Johnson's anti-flexible working comments

Mayor of London Boris Johnson's comments against flexible working during the Olympic Games have been described as "disappointing and damaging" by a diversity campaign.

The government is encouraging people to work from home during the Olympics in order to avoid congestion and chaos on the roads, but Mr Johnson described doing so as a "skivers paradise".

Rachel Saunders, head of communications and research at Opportunity Now, told HR Magazine that it is "incredibly frustrating" that the mayor is not supporting working from home initiatives and called his views "outdated".

"At a time when many employees face longer and more overcrowding on their commute, and with Transport for London urging London's commuters to think flexibly about their travel times, working from home will certainly be a saviour for many," she said.

"Instead of wasting time battling through the tourist crowds, it is far better to be more productive at home - for employers and employees alike."
