Our DBA team are global team responsible for all database infrastructure within Thomsons. This covers our live Darwin service and Business Intelligence platforms. The core focus of the DBA team, within Darwin is to ensure the uptime, performance and security of the platform.

We provide automated services within the tech team to deliver UAT and QA platforms for Darwin development & testing Additionally, we design and build all BI tools within Thomsons, including Darwin Analytics Center as well as internal data warehouses.



What will you be doing:

  • Implementing best practice to ensure an efficient Darwin database structure
  • Maintaining Microsoft SQL Server 2008 to 2016 databases
  • Maintaining MongoDB databases
  • Creating, monitoring and troubleshooting backup and maintanance routines
  • Checking testing and validating developer written database scripts
  • Writing database scripts to requirements
  • Running database scripts against the live database
  • Monitoring SQL cluster performance in production environment
  • Managing SQL & MongoDB databases in all environments Production, Preview and Acceptance and UAT
  • Managing and monitoring performance within client SLA’s
  • Maintaining patch levels on all SQL Server and MongoDB instances
  • Troubleshooting server O/S (Windows and Linux) issues on Production servers
  • Interface with development teams to proactively solve issues
  • Logging support calls with third party hosting provider
  • Ensuring data integrity and security on all Databases
  • Creating and maintaining data warehousing and business analytics solutions
  • Assisting the technical team with server support, incident resolution and problem solving
  • Assisting the technical infrastructure team with availability and capacity planning. 


We are looking for a PINK person, with:

  • Excellent communication skills in English – both spoken and written
  • Scripting knowledge including T-SQL, JavaScript and PowerShell
  • Windows & Linux Infrastructure knowledge
  • Data Warehousing knowledge
  • High attention to detail
  • A commitment to quality and a thorough approach to the work
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Flexible attitude, ability to perform under pressure
