About the team: 

The Data and Analytics team is a new team and is being formed to work on our Data and Analytics offering. This team and role is part of our long term strategy to grow the business and to ensure our clients are provided with. This role will focus on developing solutions in support of our SAAS product Darwin, live in more than 90 countries. In addition the Data Scientist will participate in a variety of ad hoc projects including with sister companies and our parent MMC Inc. 


Your mission will be:

  • Working with product and technology groups across the company to enable the adoption of algorithms.

  • Conduct research and development activities, data exploration and discovery, develop prototypes and proof of concepts.

  • Stay up to date with the latest data science technologies and techniques and how they can be utilised throughout the organisation.

  • Look for opportunities for insights/datasets/models/code to be used across other functions across the organisation.

  • Perform A/B test design, implementation and analysis on the application in order to determine the effectiveness of our efforts.

  • Focusing on developing analytic and predictive modelling solutions that feature engineering assets, experimental design, as well as modelling techniques and abilities.

  • Collaborate and partner with global stakeholders in a way that supports the vision and sustains a culture that treats analytics as a critical asset.

  • Develop knowledge of Thomsons unique ‘pink’ formal and informal structures, business processes, and data sources in your area of expertise 


What skills and values you will bring:

  • Experience in an analytical/algorithm/data/software development role

  • Good SQL/data manipulation skills required including cleaning and managing data.

  • Scripting/programming languages a plus (Python, R, Java etc.)

  • Degree qualified in quantitative field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Machine Learning / AI

  • Exposure to executing change to core business processes through the innovative use of quantitative techniques.

  • Experience with data visualisation tools and packages a plus.

  • Willingness to work with unstructured, messy data.

  • Intellectual curiosity and desire to learn new things, techniques and technologies.

  • Experience modeling data and analytical capability.

  • Ability to translate complex technical topics into business solutions and strategies, including visualization.

  • Exposure to executing change to core business processes through the innovative use of quantitative techniques.

  • Experience working in agile teams
