Our DBA team are global team responsible for all database infrastructure within Thomsons. This covers our live Darwin service and Business Intelligence platforms. The core focus of the DBA team, within Darwin is to ensure the uptime, performance and security of the platform.

We provide automated services within the tech team to deliver UAT and QA platforms for Darwin development & testing Additionally, we design and build all BI tools within Thomsons, including Darwin Analytics Center as well as internal data warehouses.

 

 

What will you be doing:

  • Administration of SQL Server (2008 to 2016) and MongoDB (3.4 to 4.0) platforms
  • Install, upgrade and patching of all database servers
  • Develop, maintain and test backup/recovery and maintenance code
  • Troubleshoot performance related issues and collaborate with Architecture/Development to improve our database design and performance
  • Work with DevOps to ensure databases work seamlessly in a CI/CD environment
  • Provide guidance and mentoring for Junior DBA members and the wider technology team
  • Automation using T-SQL/Powershell
  • Troubleshooting server O/S (Windows and Linux) issues on Production servers, including clustering
  • Support infrastructure with capacity planning and licensing
  • Development SSIS packages to support our Analytics tools including database design
  • Develop BI dashboards and charts

 

We are looking for a PINK person, with:

  • Scripting knowledge including T-SQL, JavaScript and PowerShell
  • Windows & Linux Infrastructure knowledge
  • Data Warehousing knowledge (Kimball)
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • High attention to detail
  • A commitment to quality and a thorough approach to the work
  • Ability to work well within a team
