Thomsons' community responsibility

At Thomsons, one of our core values is “Being Brilliant Together”, and it is therefore really important to us to engage with and give something back to our community. We make this happen through our 'Pay It Forward' initiative, a concept based on a simple premise: asking someone to repay your kindness by doing a good deed for someone else.

All Thomsons People globally are encouraged and empowered to get involved in a wide range of charitable activities from sporting events and community volunteering to blood donations. Our People are given a day’s leave to engage with the charities that personally inspire them. In addition, Thomsons matches pound for pound their fund raising up to £500 each year for the charity of their choice.

Each of our locations also supports a charity selected by our People: Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSHCC) in London, the Singapore Children’s Society in Singapore and The Prison Fellowship in Cluj. As well as regular events such as bake sales and book fairs, each office chooses an annual challenge to complete.

In 2016 we repeated an old favourite in the UK: the Thames Challenge where Thomsons People travelled between 80 – 140 miles from Oxford to London following the Thames River, as an individual or a team, by any non-motorised mode of transport. Thomsons People cycled, ran, walked, kayaked, swam and some even turned it into an iron man challenge! We raised over £56,000 this year taking our total for GOSHCC to £165,000 to go towards building a treatment centre for Cystic Fibrosis patients.
