Bauer Media (Bauer) is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries as well as online, TV and radio stations.
When it came to their reward strategy, Bauer was eager to improve engagement and increase employees’ understanding of the reward package in order to enhance its perceived value. Furthermore, Bauer wanted to reduce their existing reward spend and decrease the administrative burden of running their reward programme, which was being run by three different providers (employee helpdesk, broking and technology platform).
Bauer approached Thomsons Online Benefits to find an integrated solution to deliver added value to their employees at a lower cost to the organisation. This was done by incorporating Thomsons’ solutions across all areas of the reward management, including corporate broking, benefits advising, employee helpdesk and technology. By appointing Thomsons as their benefit advisor, Bauer could take advantage of their proprietary software - DarwinTM - to take care of the admin burden and allow employees to engage directly with their benefits. In addition, being appointed as the benefit broker allowed Thomsons to renegotiate with benefit providers to secure the best market rates and achieve further savings for Bauer.
A unique benefits brand was developed – Benefits Box - and launched alongside the benefits portal to promote the new rewards. This was supported by creative communications, on-site branding and employee workshops to ensure employees understood their benefits and could take full advantage of them.
Using Thomsons’ DarwinTM meant that Bauer could streamline and automate the employee benefits administration process. This was achieved by removing unnecessary paper forms and driving employee enrolments online thereby leading to more accurate data capture and processing with Bauer’s payroll provider.
By partnering with Thomsons Online Benefits, Bauer were able to increase employee engagement while reducing costs and improving efficiencies in administration. All Bauer employees continue to have access to a personalised Total Reward Statement which has all their benefits information in one place and enables them to enrol online. This means employees can easily understand what they are entitled to and select the benefits and level of cover that meet their lifestyle needs. In addition, if further help is needed, employees are able to contact the Thomsons helpdesk where a trained consultant can guide them as necessary.
Furthermore, Thomsons were able to save Bauer a total of £105,000 across their PMI, GIP and GLA policies during the re-broking of Bauer’s core benefit offering.
